I am interested to discuss bike riding and the healthy effects of it. Who rides a bike to work? For fun? If you ride a bike to work do you feel like Forrest Gump? Or do you have no problem with other jerks that for some reason look down on you if youre not driving a car? I have been trying to sell my Corvette through a high end consignment dealer and have been riding my bike 9 miles daily roundtrip to and from work for six weeks now.
On one hand I feel.............. actually I could be really upset about the poor financial decisions I have made in the past few years. But I swear that even after the car sells I think I will continue biking to work. I get a MAJOR cardio workout twice a day. I still feel like shit alot for various reasons. But I have also been feeling ALOT better than I have in the past 2 or 3 years.
I used to work out regularly until the last few years. Never majorly. Off and on and even when regular I always felt like a lightweight. But this morning when I got out of the shower and was drying off I looked at myself and was actually surprised at noticing I actually looked pretty hot to myself. lol Like, if I were someone else, I would totally do me. : )
Hmm. lol Anyway. I am really into the bike thing even though it is getting colder and it might actually rain again one day in the future? Hopefully not acid rain. That would be cool if acid rain was actually LSD. Everyone would just walk outside and look up and close their eyes and stick out their tongues. I know some people would be collecting it in buckets or laying down with their face in the gutters drinking as much as possible. Then everyone would go back inside and tune into doing time in the universal mind.
So what does the collective consciousness have to say about bike riding?
And HAPPY 15 th BIRTHDAY to Critical Mass !!! Even though there is controversy. I have actually been in a car that was pounded by those guys. This was years ago. But my stupid friend Audra thought she should drive into them when I explained that she just needed to wait till they all went by. She was so angry. She brought it on herself. Afterward my friend Star and I were like "Uh, you can take us home now." I can't remember if this is the same night she thought she could get into clubs without an ID. We went to like 5 places and finally were telling her to take us to the liquor store and we could go back to my place and get our drink on and dance around to some KMFDM, Die Krupps and NIN. Then we wound up completely obliterated listening to Frontline Assembly.
Who knew those might be good memories one day? Damn.

Re: BIKING
Sat, September 29, 2007 - 2:18 AMI admire the people who ride their bikes to work when they could be driving. I see a lot of bike riders where I live. I personally don't have a bike these days, gave mine to someone who didn't have a car or a bike a few years back.
But I do wonder, if I were to get a bike, and if I worked far enough away from home to have to commute (I don't at the moment), I wonder if I would feel fresh enough all day at work after working up a sweat. How many bikers do you think get to shower once they get to work? Or does everyone happily accept the after work out odor, because, after all, he/she road his/her bike to work?
I applaud the bike riders, just wondering how you get around this one. -

Re: BIKING
Sat, September 29, 2007 - 6:24 AMI don't produce massive odorous sweat. I guess that would be a problem for some people possibly. There is a shower in the building next door that I could use but I'm fine really. I'm a little pumped when I get there so it takes about 20 minutes to cool down and my legs twitch. Sometimes in the last mile I wonder if I'm gonna make it. My mechanical heart valve is all ticking really fast. Then I just slow down and take it easy.
I think after the car sells I'm gonna get a new silver alluminum GIANT bike which body style is very similar to the Raleigh I have now and just keep riding to work. Or I thought about just continuing to ride the one I have. The cost of cars is just not worth it to me anymore if I don't require one. My friend just dumped 650 into a brake job. I am so over the expense! My bike is over 15 years old and could use a tune up which will probably cost 75 bucks. The Giant bike is only 385. I could sell mine for 75 or give it away and the Giant would probably be a smoother easier ride. Plus it looks really nice. : )
I even bought rain gear for like 35 bucks to ride in the rain. I can make it to work usually between 18 and 25 minutes. Coming hom, the bus doesnt even pick you up till 5:30pm. By the time the bus pics me up I could already be home. And that is even with stopping to get some beer too. Hmm.
This lady once was the oldest person to live to 122 and rode her bike every day till she was 115. Of course her family was rich and she never had to work a day in her life so she had no concept of work stress.

Sat, September 29, 2007 - 10:54 AMI would love a recumbant or a quad but they are so pricey. Especially the quads.
I'd love to get one of these. : )

Re: BIKING
Sat, September 29, 2007 - 3:12 PMOh, those are cool. But how practical? They won't fit in the bike lanes provided in my city, and the cars might have a tough time dealing with them on the streets if there were a lot around. Maybe where you live there's not so much traffic as where I am. -

Re: BIKING
Sat, September 29, 2007 - 7:09 PMNo I think they would be somewhat problematic here as well. : )
