Human Growth Hormones (HGH)
I see it for sell on the net, I have seen it in the stores and I even had this one mountain of a guy at the gym tell me he could get me some off the black market?! What is the difference between the stuff in the store, compared to the on on the black market ( no needles invovled). Is this stuff any good? Does it really do what it claims to do? Is it allowed in competitions?
Opinions and thoughts on the stuff.....thank you.

Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Wed, January 16, 2008 - 10:49 AMin general, i don't think it's wise to touch anything that comes from questionable sources. And unless you have a pile of cash in your hand, most of this shit comes from questionable sources.
here is a really interesting article that was written for Outside Magazine.
outside.away.com/outside/b...est_1.html
...but it does work. And it is cheating.
don't kid yourself. It's cheating. -

Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 7:26 AMIt is interesting that the writer states:
"If the HGH weren't so expensive, I'd probably continue with it, at least until I had a good reason not to, like some new evidence that it makes you grow extra ears. (The side effects of HGH are reportedly mild—one is fluid retention.) If nothing else, it helped my eyesight, and I had more energy."
Not very discouraging! -

Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 9:25 AMExactly. I'd do HGH too - if I could afford it.
But I would not do it if I were competing - because it's cheating. -

Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Sun, January 20, 2008 - 3:07 PMYeah. Doping committee is going wild in many sports these days anyway. It's not worth the risk if you're pro. You can lose up to 2 years or lifetime bans.

Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 7:28 AMMy big fear, competing against women that are a lot younger than me, the are the gals that could be taking it and it is not detected...........................
(when you are young, you have no fear of tomorrow) -
-
Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 9:24 AMwhat are you, forty something? You are young.
All of the cheat drugs are far ahead of the detection curve. All of the cheaters know ways around the detection methods.
Is this really a ride you want to get on? It's expensive and it's risky. Unless you have really good genetics to start with, there is no point. -

Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 10:06 AMThank you for saying that I am young. *blushing*
I have the picture of the woman that I need to beat. She has won 3 times in a row and she is half my age. AND short, better muscle development compare to us gals that are 5"9". I will be in the 45+ catagory and the Tall catagory and I will throw in my glove to the Over All. **half me age...ugh!** I COULD BE HER MOM!!!!! -

Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 10:28 AMIs the point to win? or is the point to do your best?
There will always be somebody out there who is younger, cuter, stronger, better, etc. So what.
I say do it anyway - and do your best! -
-
Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 10:31 AMOf course I want to win...but I will be proud of myself just getting up there on the stage and not killing myself with those 4" heels! -
-
Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 10:32 AMbased on my experience in competition, I do better competing when my primary goal is to have fun.
Most people I know who compete fall in the same category. -

Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 10:36 AMI have a few youngster that I trained a long time ago that I am going to be competing with and against. We are going to have fun and giggle the whole time. It will be fun and scarry at the same time. I have always done team sports, this is the first time it will only be me.
And my teenage kids are watching everything that I am doing!!!! -
-
Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 1:36 PMyes. think of your teenaged kids - do you really want to teach them that it's OK to cheat in a fitness competition - to win against someone just because you are scared that they are going to beat you?
I think you'd rather teach them about achieving their goals with integrity. Go mama! -

Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Sun, January 20, 2008 - 3:11 PMYeah. Also, sports are a discipline of the natural mind and body. At least originally. For the sake of respecting the sport you play/love, don't cheat.
Plus, can you imagine the disappointment of your kids if you do cheat and the doping committee finds out?
Anyway, good luck with your competition! :)

Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Tue, January 29, 2008 - 3:54 PMI saw that.
he's not competing.
he's right - HGH is not a steroid. Steroids are steroids.
HGH and steroids do two different things.
drugs are fine, if you're an old movie star with a lot of money.

Re: Peaked my curiosity.....
Tue, January 29, 2008 - 3:04 PMMy opinion about HGH is it is safe to use. I don't know about using it for competitive purposes. It could be considered cheating. I don't think of it as a steroid, myself. It's a hormone. People make HGH in their own bodies in plentiful supply while they are young. When they age people make less and less of it.
I became familiar with HGH from an organization called Life Extension Foundation that looks at all kinds of supplementation to extend a healthy and active life. My ex husband used to have it prescribed (he was 15 years older than me), and he injected it into a fatty area of his body when he had some. HGH is very expensive, and my ex said if he could afford it he would take it all the time. He was almost 60 then, younger than most who take it to combat aging. It wasn't easy to find a doctor to prescribe it, but Life Extension Foundation will help a member find a doctor that might prescribe it to you.
My 60 year old ex said when he injected HGH his body felt similar to when he was in his 30's, less aches and pains and more energy. His opinion is that it was completely safe. He also tried the formulas that one ingests once or twice, but doubted that they really did much. He couldn't feel the noticeable difference that he felt when he used the injectable kind.
So my opinion is that it is safe, and is a desirable thing to do if you are in your 70's or 80's and want to stay youthful and energetic. If one is in their 60's, it is more controversial, but if you can afford it and have the right doctor, why not?
I have no opinion on using HGH for athletic advancement only. Although HGH (the injectable kind) probably works to improve performance if you are over 40. Bodies in the 20 to 30 age range are already making plenty of it naturally. It'd be a waste of money. And in competitions you might be disqualified if anyone found out.
